A Global Generosity Movement

Giving Tuesday is this Tuesday and we could use your help! If Haven Acres has impacted you or your family there’s a couple things you could do to help.

First, you could post a picture at Haven Acres on social media and tag our Facebook page and #GivingTuesday. Explain how Haven Acres has impacted you or your family, and ask people to consider donating on Giving Tuesday.

Second, you could create your own fundraiser! Raise support from your friends and family who may have never heard about Haven Acres before. This has been a SUPER helpful way to gain support for #GivingTuesday in the past. If you could help in this way, create your own fundraiser through this link: https://www.facebook.com/fund/havenacresmn/.

Thank you all for your support of Haven Acres! We’re so excited to serve you all again next year!

Three New Additions

Within the last month we have added three new horses to our herd! While we weren’t expecting to add three new horses all at once this fall, we know God uses all things for the good of those who love Him, and we’re really excited for the opportunity to have these horses added to our family.

Journey was the unexpected third horse this fall. He was in a situation where he was getting insufficient food, vet, and farrier care and the vet who knew him was worried he wouldn’t make it through the winter where he was. His owner was willing to surrender him and we were asked if we could give him a home and fatten him up for the harsh winter. We felt impressed to bring Journey home and rehabilitate him for use with the kids next summer. Journey is an almost all white appaloosa gelding in his later years. He had already gained some weight at his half-way home but when he got to us he still needed an extra hundred pounds. Since he’s an appaloosa he has sensitive pink skin around his eyes and nose that had been majorly sunburned, resulting in scabs, swelling, skin cancer, and possible sight-impairment. We’re monitoring these as well as the possibility that he might have Cushing’s Disease, which requires daily medications to keep under control.

Ransom and Smokey are two full brothers who were lovingly donated by the Clyd and Sue Johnson who also donated Cowboy, Shzar, and Sundance in previous years. These are two beautiful Quarter/Morgan cross geldings who have done family trail rides all their lives and are ready to keep working for some more years yet. Ransom has Cushing’s Disease but that will soon be under control with his meds! We are so grateful for these boys!

Journey and Smokey have already obtained sponsors! Ransom still needs a monthly sponsor to cover his basic needs, and you can find out more by contacting us or by visiting this page.

We’ll be posting about them periodically on social media if you would like to stay updated on their progress.

Sweatshirts Available ’til October 18th!

We wanted to let everyone know there are a couple of ways you can support Haven Acres this fall. With winter unfortunately just around the corner, we’ll soon be feeding straight hay again, and the cost of hay is $1,350 per month for the 6 months that the horses can’t be pastured. Any amount of help is greatly appreciated!

One way to help is through this year’s sweatshirt fundraiser! We have bunch of options. We have zip-ups, pull-overs, crewnecks, long sleeves, and short sleeves. All of them have our design with Proverbs 11:25 and a horse shoe, and they are available in some fun, new colors! There are ONLY 10 DAYS LEFT TO ORDER as the deadline is October 18th. We do not purchase extras, so this is your only chance to get this particular shirt. To order yours today, click this link.

The Round-Up: Success!

The Haven Acres Annual Round-Up was a huge success this year!! Approximately 300 people were in attendance, and the feedback we received was extremely positive and encouraging! One of the volunteers said, “I can’t even express how full my heart is! I loved every minute of today. On my way home I felt like I was leaving summer camp!!…I know God was there–I felt His presence…. Thank you for letting me be a part of it.”

The Round-Up is a rodeo-type event that features students from the summer mentorship program performing in an event with their horse. It is open to the community and in addition to the riding program, the Round-Up features fun for the whole family with food, carnival games, pony rides, and a Silent Auction.

We are thrilled to report that nearly $7,000 was raised this year as a result of the generous donations of organizations and families in our community such as yours! Thank you for partnering with us so that we can continue offering encouragement, hope, and mentorship to at-risk youth in the Metro area.

Round-Up 2019 Announced!

We’re excited to announce our annual Round-Up this year! This event is designed to be fun for the whole family as we support our riders as they demonstrate the horsemanship skills they have learned all year by competing in some friendly horse games. Invite your family, invite your friends, invite your neighbors. We’re going to have fun! We’ll also have carnival games, food, pony rides, a silent auction, t-shirts, a raffle, door prizes, and more!

Heard of Haven Acres and want to see what it’s all about? This is a great way to get to know us. We’ll have testimonials, a tour, and you’ll get to meet the horses and volunteers. Everyone is invited! Just bring a lawn chair and your family!

September 7th from 4-7pm.

T-Shirt Fundraiser Finished!

This year for our t-shirt fundraiser we had six different shirt options including a couple different feminine options and kids’ sizes. Also, for the first time ever, we had one of our own participants draw the horse featured on the shirt! So after offering the shirts for a couple weeks we made $1,040! We are so grateful for this option of offering shirts to our participants and supporters and for everyone who has contributed in this way. Thank you!!

WANTED: Bowlers!

WANTED: Friends of Haven Acres (volunteers, cheerleaders, neighbors, or participants alike)!

Bowling for Bucks is one of our biggest fundraisers, raising over $5,000 each year! It’s also a valuable way for us to get the word out about Haven Acres as the bowlers will be talking to people that don’t usually hear about Haven Acres. Your support allows kids to come out to Haven Acres for the summer free of charge!

This year we will be hosting Bowling for Bucks at Bowlero in Lakeville on April 26th and our goal is to raise $10,000!! Will you consider being a part of this?

Before the event, supporters of Haven Acres get to ask their friends and family to sponsor them in their round of bowling. Sponsors can choose to pledge a flat amount or pledge an amount per point. Then we bowl! Pizza and pop are provided for the bowlers and we usually bowl 3 rounds together. We have forms that you can record your pledge amounts on as well!

A few things:
1. We ask bowlers to set a goal for at least $250.
2. ANYONE can bowl, we just ask that kids under 13 be with an adult.
3. Bowlers are responsible for the cost of their bowling and shoes.

Please let us know by April 19th if you’re going to join us!

Four More Days Left to Register!

Just four more days left to register for the summer program! Applications received before 11:59pm on April 1st will be drawn from for the summer mentorship program and anyone who is not drawn or applies after April 1st will be added to the wait list. For more info, please visit http://havenacresmn.org/registration/

New Additions!!

Meet Maximus, Zacchaeus, and Cody!

Maximus and Zacchaeus were both donated to us from Ironwood Springs Christian Ranch! Maximus is a Percheron gelding who has a bad injury to his leg in the fall but he’s making a great recovery and we’re so excited to have our first draft! Zacchaeus is a mini mule (or our wee little mule) who was completely wild in the fall and has now gotten to the point where he’s a little halter broke. We’re excited to have him and work with him so that he can get loved on by some adoring kids!

And then we have Cody! Jenifer’s mom sponsored Cowboy for the last several years, and she wanted to make sure that we continue to have a Paint at Haven Acres. So in honor of Cowboy, the Garrets purchased Cody for our program. He is rather nervous right now, but we are hoping that he settles in and loves his new job. Please pray for him as he is somewhat sore right now and is in serious need of some hoof care. We’re hoping that it is not a long-term problem.

So grateful for some special blessings this year after some really hard days this winter!
